Come what may… the Backyard Bazaar must go on!!

Handmade Hong Kong’s Discovery Bay backyard bazaar took place last Sunday and it was one of the largest independant arts and crafts market this city has ever seen, 2nd in place from the first HMHK Soho fair! The morning started pretty grey and grim with heavy clouds in the sky showing all signs of downpour, but that did nothing to kill the high spirits of all the vendors! We set to work setting up our booths in the best locations we could find and within no time the first ferry after 10 into DB brought with it a sea of eager and excited shoppers! Pretty soon the market was buzzing with the sounds of laughter, kids running about, dogs barking and all those subconscious uncertainties of how the day would turn out flew right out of our heads!

I won’t lie, I definitely had doubts about the success of Sara’s Henna, because rain + wet henna = Disaster!! If my best friend Feebs hadn’t been there with me, I probably would have caved in and just not bothered with my booth! However, surprisingly the booth did pretty well, and the rain definitely didn’t stop the dedicated henna lovers from getting their tattoos done! Daughters bonded with their moms by convincing them to get their hands tattood, while best friends shared identical tattoos to show their loyalties the way only 10 yr olds can! Henna tattooing seemed to be the bonding exercise of the day, and seeing the way their faces lit up after getting their tattoos done was definitely worth getting soaked for! Check out the best shots below!

For a unique henna experience in Hong Kong, remember Sara’s Henna!
