Moroccan Henna Guitar!

Moroccan Henna Guitar!

For Round 2 of the Big Henna Competition for the Henna Intensive & Retreat, I decided to draw inspiration from Moroccan Art, Pottery, handicrafts and create my design on wood rather than on a body.

2 reasons for this being: I’ve always loved Moroccan music, so I thought it would tie in quite well, and secondly I feel there’s something very organic and raw about hennaing wood! I love the way the colors complement each other and how it permanently stains the wood as well!

So without further delay, here’s my entry for Round 2:

“Moroccan Melody” – the Hennafied Guitar!

I created this short stop motion animation video to give you a better idea of the entire process of hennaing this guitar and You can see how the design builds up in layers.

My design portrays everything I learnt about Moroccan Art, in terms of Balance, symmetry, and the use of geometrical shapes. However, I didn’t plan the design out, instead let the henna flow and let my creative instincts build up on the design just keeping in mind the basic principles of Moroccan henna art. I loved creating this design, because it was challenging, and it pushed me out of my comfort zone! I’m pretty terrible at straight lines, and geometrical shapes and usually shy away from using them in my henna, however this just proves to me that it’s all about mind over matter! Once I put my mind to it, I think this has turned out to be a pretty good attempt and I’m definitely happy with it!!

What do you think?

Hiiii! It looks soooooo beautiful. I’m thinking of designing my guitar too. How did you make your henna paste? I’m scared that mine won’t stick to the guitar. I was thinking of sandpapering my guitar coz I don’t like the colour, henna it and then varnish it. Do you think that’s fine?

    Hii Gervie,
Thank you so much! That’s actually the best way!! Make sure to put about 2-3 coats of varnish – and then the henna will be there permanently! Even with rough use:). Would love to see your henna guitar photos once you’re done!!
